DR GEORGE CHAN - DIRECTOR/PRODUCER

I’ve worked in TV and film for over twenty years after joining the BBC to work with Sir David Attenborough on the series State of the Planet. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world producing and directing on internationally renowned documentaries and I now bring a wealth of high quality broadcast experience to research and enterprise taking place in the UK.

My early career started with a PhD in Evolutionary Biology and I have continued to work alongside scientists and researchers on an almost daily basis – translating and bringing discoveries and ideas to life on screen.  It’s been a real privilege to be able to film ground-breaking research and meet the people behind it.

JODIE HARRIS - PRODUCER / EDITOR / SCRIPT-WRITER

I’m a video producer and science writer and have been with Blue Fire Films for five years. Prior to that, I spent fourteen years working within government, research councils, large charities and academic institutions as a Communications Professional. I have a Masters in Entrepreneurship in Science and Technology and in a previous life, I was a researcher for a Hollywood feature film!

I specialise in environmental and health sciences and am skilled at making sure your project resonates with your key audiences from public to policymakers.  Although my primary focus is video production, I’m also an experienced in digital marketing and web production.  At Blue Fire Films, we like to think of the whole communications package.

JAMES HOBSON - EDITOR / PRODUCER

My background is in video editing for broadcast television and have a track record of factual and science programming for UK and international broadcasters. I’ve illustrated passionate essays from Richard Dawkins and Stephen Hawking, delivered action-packed explosion fests for Discovery Channel, and even spent three months embedded in the gardens of Blenheim Palace.

I’ve worked in community video and installation films and relish helping people to tell their own stories and achieve their own ambitions.

I have a keen sense of editorial balance, visual creativity and a drive for perfection. I strive to learn new animation techniques with every project.

KRISTINA BERVE - RESEARCHER

I'm a neuroimmunologist who is passionate about communicating research in a compelling and informative way. I’m driven by the need to combat misinformation fueled by latest societal challenges including climate change and COVID-19. I believe scientific films can bridge the gap between scientists and the general public making science accessible for everyone.

During my PhD I organised science festivals in Switzerland and produced documentary films about latest scientific research topics.

I research and organise short film productions for Blue Fire Films with a focus on European clients.

Small agency BIG benefit

Unlike many agencies, we promise never to delegate the management of your project to junior staff. We work as a small team keeping costs low but on larger projects we use our connections to bring in top professionals in the documentary industry. We pull together a trusted crew of BAFTA and EMMY award-winning animators, composers, cameramen and sound recordists to support us.

Interview coaching

We ensure your interviewees are able to give their very best performance. Being in front of camera can be intimidating - but it shouldn't be. We are highly experienced interviewers who have worked with everyone from celebrities to scientists sitting in front of camera for the first time. We take pride in our ability to be acutely perceptive to people's characters and play to their strengths.

Tech know-how

We are BBC-trained professionals. We use High Definition (HD) cameras producing films at TV broadcast standard quality.
